KANSAS CITY, MO. – Lanny Morrow, managing consultant with BKD’s Forensics & Valuation Services (FVS) division in the firm’s Kansas City office, received his certification as a Cyber-Threat Forensic Investigator from the McAfee Institute. According to McAfee, this award “provides students the essential domain knowledge required to serve in decision-making roles throughout the cyber-security industry.”
McAfee grants this certification after students complete a rigorous course load covering current types of cyberthreats, how to recognize their signatures and an operational framework used to investigate incidents.
“Since incident response is the first step in a cybersecurity project, having a credentialed ‘first responder’ is critical,” said Managing Partner Angela Morelock. “Now our team comprises a credentialed cybersecurity investigator, certified fraud examiner and credentialed IT security auditor. We can theoretically cover all the facets of a cybersecurity matter from start to finish, including post-incident education and improvement of our client controls and awareness.”
With 20 years of experience at BKD, Morrow is the senior data scientist and technical lead in advanced data mining and digital forensics for BKD’s FVS division. He is a frequent speaker and writer on data mining and digital forensics, including contributions to university textbooks and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ Fraud Magazine. He also is an adjunct professor in the Master’s in Data Science Program at Rockhurst University, Kansas City, Missouri.
He is a 1995 graduate of Missouri State University, Springfield, with B.A. degrees in accounting and finance.
